The Obligation of the Woman to Seek Knowledge

The woman is a person who holds a moral responsibility just as the man does. It is obligatory for her to seek knowledge of the obligations that have been placed upon her. This is so that she will perform these obligations with the utmost certainty. If she has a father or a brother or a husband or a male who is her Mahram who can teach her these obligations and show her how to perform them then that will suffice her. If not then she can ask questions and learn. If she is able she can also seek a woman to teach her and familiarize her with her obligations. If not then she can learn from the scholars and people of the Sunnah as long as she is not alone. And when something happens to her regarding her religion then she can ask them about it. She should not be shy for indeed Allah is not shy regarding the truth.

Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu Brother.

Masha'Allah, your blog is very beautiful and most beneficial, may Allah reward you, ameen.

I have recently begun a similar blog for my fellow sisters in the deen myself: http://imanbendjedidi.blogspot.com/
and I was wondering if I may have permission to post this blog on the Obligation of Women seeking knowledge on my blog.
I will, of course, link it back to your blog.

I hope you don't mind I have also included a link to your blog on my blog page so that other sisters may benefit from your blog too.

Barak'Allahu feek

Alhamdulillah all the words in this article contain excellent truth and should be taken most seriously by all sisters. Jazakallah khair for bringing this aspect of our duty to Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) to our attention as it is some thing I feel many sisters (and I do not except myself from this) some times allow to be forgotten.

Outside the time I spend reading the Noble Quran every day I try to spend also at least one hour of study on all aspects of our wonderful deen insha'Allah.
I hope that many sisters read this post as it is SO important in my belief.

Walaikum salaam from your sister in Islam, A

Sister Aliyah, Allah reward you yet again for your beneficial comments.

I am trying to gain a copy of "Ahkaam-un-Nisaa'ee" by Ibn al-Jawzee (rahimahullah) as it contains many benefits. Allah willing once I get it, I plan to translate portions of it here for the sisters as there are many short sections that could assist our sisters.

Jazakallah khair, Brother Aboo 'Imraan al-Mekseekee, for your kind words. Alhamdulillah this is a wonderful place and I hope that many more sisters will visit here and learn from your erudition and devotion to our wonderful deen insha'Allah.
I find aspects of great interest every time I visit here and reading your blogs has driven away thoughts of writing blogs myself. It is better to quiet learn at the feet of those who speak wisely than it is to attempt to talk oneself foolishly.
In respect of your worthy endeavour to translate apsects of "Ahkaam-un-Nisaa'ee" by Ibn al-Jawzee (Rahimahullah) might I most humbly suggest that you might like to try looking for a copy at the Online Islamic Bookstore which I am informed has a good reputation and is also situated in the USA.
One of my sisters in Islam here has used this store in the past with satisfaction, her booked being speedily mailed from USA to Jordan with a minimum of delay. She has informed me that its address is:
www.onlineislamicstore.com/ind.html
I am sure that many sisters will benefit greatly should you publish sections of the book here insha'Allah.
May Allah (Subhana wa ta'ala) look kindly upon your work on the behalf of your sisters in Islam and may he protect and guide you in all that you do. Ameen.

Walaikum salaam from your sister in Islam, A.

wa 'alaykum as-salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

Sister in Islaam Aliyah, may Allah protect you from every harm and evil, Aboo Bakr as-Sadeeq (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say:

اللهم لا تؤاخذني بما يقولون و اغفر لي ما لا يعلمون و اجعلني خيراً مما يظنون

{O Allah do not hold me to account for what they say (about me), forgive me of what they do not know (about me), and place goodness from what they think (about me).}

This narration is found in Hisn-ul-Muslim under the chapter: What the Muslim says when praised as chapter 114 and as supplication 232 as narrated in al-Bukhaaree's al-Adab-ul-Mufrad number 761 and authenticated by al-Albaanee in Saheeh al-Adab-ul-Mufrad number 585. The later sentence of the supplication is an addition found in al-Bayhaqee's Shu'ab-ul-Imaan 4/228 from another narrative.

I will look into obtaining the book at this online store. This is very good news, I also found it at fadak books so I may purchase both as both are different versions from different publishers. May Allah reward you with much good.

Please make Duaa' for me and ask Allah to forgive me of my many sins and shortcomings and guide my children and keep them upon Islaam.

Your brother,
Aboo 'Imraan al-Mekseekee

It is reported from Abû Mûsâ Al-Ash’arî – Allah be pleased with him – that he said:

We the Companions of Allah’s Messenger – Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – never had difficulty in understanding a hadîth except that when we asked ‘Â`ishah we found she had some knowledge about it.

It is reported from Masrûq – Allah have mercy on him – that he said:

We swear by Allah, we have seen senior Companions of Allah’s Messenger – Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – asking ‘Â`ishah about inheritance laws.
